We have signed a Sister City Protocol between our municipality and the town of Karaburun in İzmir, Türkiye, with the aim of creating mutual benefit in the social, cultural and economic fields.
During the two days we were hosted in Karaburun, together with Mayor İlkay Girgin Erdoğan and her colleagues we visited and examined the Karaburun Municipality Olive Oil Factory and the Eğlenhoca Goat Cheese Dairy, the Ceramics Workshop, the Training Centres, the Health and Wellbeing Centre, the Children’s Guesthouse and the summer facilities.
After presenting the Eğlenhoca Village Square Project, now nearing completion, we visited the district’s historic and tourist sites — Kösedere, İnecik, Kaynarpınar, Old Mordoğan Village, Sarpıncık Lighthouse, Yeniliman, Bozköy, Sazak and Küçükbahçe — and toured the Karaburun town centre, Karaburun İskele and Mordoğan neighbourhoods.
We are pleased that two tourism districts sharing a local-government outlook that grows agriculture and tourism together without disturbing the town’s natural character have become sister cities. We extend our thanks to Mr Nazmi Buldanlıoğlu, for many years a lecturer in Tourism Management at the European University of Lefke, who brought us together during the sister-city process.
